Torquay Men’s Shed helps with Essential Repairs
The Torquay community Men’s Shed recently lent a helping hand to the Torquay Nippers after a call for aid from the lifesaving club due to malfunctioning and worn-out equipment.
Ben Smith, director of Torquay Lifesaving Club sponsor Hayden Real Estate, highlighted the pressing need for repairs to the belt and reel equipment. Recognising the Men’s Shed’s expertise, they sought their assistance. Secretary Ian Mathieson emphasised the Shed’s commitment to community initiatives, stating they were eager to meet the club’s needs.
Following their collaboration, the Shed completed the refurbishment last week, ensuring the junior rescue reels were in optimal condition for use. The timely repairs allowed the equipment to be deployed at the Warrnambool State Championships, where Torquay nippers showcased their skills.
Matt Carmichael, a board member of Torquay Lifesaving Club, expressed gratitude for the partnership between Hayden Real Estate and the Men’s Shed, attributing it to the successful repairs that transformed last season’s challenges into achievements. Ben Smith commended the Men’s Shed for their excellent workmanship, ensuring the equipment’s safety and functionality.
